I would like suggestions for swaps - I have some ideas of my own, but I'd like to know what everyone else is interested in.

What should our first swap be?

I have an idea. I'm game for just about anything but for our first swap mabey handmade potholders might be a fun swap. I made a couple of real cute ones from the patterns in "The Homemaker's Journal" (one of my favorites! *wink*) I love to quilt and I had some old vintage fabric. I used this fabric to make a vintage potholder with the "Pitcher" potholder pattern. I love it. I set it out just to look at and actually thought about framing it but decided it would rather be used. So now I have three! Like I said I'm game for anything but thought I'd throw an idea out there.

Cammye, I love the vintage potholders patterns. Ladies of "yesteryear" were so creative and had fun!

So, handmade potholders it will be. Let's try to recruit a few more ladies to join and I will set a deadline and the rest here in the next week or so.

How fun! I'm excited. I'm going to get busy and find some of my favorite vintage fabrics.

Blessings!

Hi Amy JO! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this. I broke my hand (my right of course) and am now, slowly poking at the keyboard as a "lefty".

I think the swap is open to any type of potholder. If I'm wrong......someone can correct me. :)

I do too. I'm really going to enjoy this.

How do your swaps work? Are they one to one swaps where you trade with a partner or are they the ones where you make enough for all the participants?

What about trading recipes or tea bags?

Would we get pattern ideas? If not, can you direct me to a website? This would be fun if I was given a little time to practice and then get a few made. Actually, now that I think about it, it is a great idea.

Katherine,

Actually, what I was referring to was the book "The Homemaker's Journal" by Melissa Ringstaff! (One of my favorite home management books by the way) In it there some adorable patterns for an apron and potholder. I'm not sure if the patterns are available on a previous website or article but you might be able find out from Melissa. I'm not sure but I'll bet there are other websites that have patterns for potholders. I hope that helps!

Blessings!

How hard is it to make pot holders?

Reply to This

Hi-I joined recently as well...I am not a sewer-at least not for public stuff! Can we hot glue or use iron on??? I am up for most anything...even if I have to get really creative as I am deficient in certain departments...I have a sewing machine, and want to learn to sew better, would love to quilt as I have a ton of fabric saved for when I learn how.
Hey- a thought...would we be able to all do like a quilt square and submit and then have a group quilt that someone kind soul with more skill than me would finish up to complete --not sure what to do with it...maybe have a drawing or donate it to a new mom or something...
just a wild thought!
