Q & A: Disagreement with Husband

hush

Q: I think this [The Heart of Her Husband] series is nice and very encouraging. However, I am a working wife who works 10 hours a day and usually I work until midnight or later. my husband works a 8-5 job and is home in the evenings. We constantly disagree about the fact that he expects the house to be emaculate and dinner cooked when he gets home. however I have explained to him that yes it is my job to make sure that these things are done, but he must realize that I am not home in the evenings to cook dinner and he is..so my solution would be for him to prep dinner. I told him that if wants these things done in a timely manner that he needs to make it possible for me to stay home and be the homemaker. Which I have no problem doing. I pay all of my own bills and buys all of the groceries so I must work outside of the home. I am bringing home the bacon, least he could do is fry it up in a pan..what do you think?

- Cynthia

A: Cynthia, I can sympathize with your issue. I applaud your efforts! Obviously if you are working outside of the home during the it would be nice if he could pitch in and help with the household chores and cooking. If he is disagreeable, perhaps you could start using the crockpot on the days you work? One of my favorite sites for crockpot recipes is: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

As far as homemaking – keeping the house clean – make up a strict schedule for your basic chores, a rotating schedule for cleaning and make sure to do a load of laundry every day. Also, try to do those chores I suggested for the morning routine either each morning when you wake up or before you go to bed. Stick to a schedule and at least you’ll be somewhat on top of things.

In life there aren’t always easy answers, but I believe that if you do your best to honor your husband, God will bless you more than you can every imagine. God knows your best effort. Trust him to provide what you need and don’t forget to really spend time everyday praying for your husband (not that he’ll change so much as he’ll become the man God would have him to be and that you’ll become the woman he wants you to be. God bless you!

Q & A: Bread Knife

Q: This is fantastic bread! Just the recipe that I had been searching for. Tried this once from someone else, but they wouldn’t share the recipe.

I have purchased three different bread knifes and I’m not happy with any of them. What do you use to cut the bread into such pretty slices?

Skey13

A: My bread knife is very basic. It is long and serrated, but not serrated like those little paring knives. It is serrated with a inverted scalloped edge. My knife is an Ekco brand knife and probably 20 years old.

It works well for slicing tomatoes, too! A good bread knife is essential if you are baking your own bread!

Q & A: Sweet Sourdough Bread was Doughy

Q: I recently found your website while searching for a recipe for Sourdough Bread starter. I have made the bread in the past but only from someone else’s starter. I have never made the starter myself. The starter worked perfectly, and I made the first batch today. It was good, but I had a problem with it being a little “doughy”. Possibly I did not leave in the oven long enough, although the crust was a perfect golden brown and toothpick inserted came out clean. Was hoping you could give me suggestions as to what I did or did not do correctly.

I am keeping the starter going and will bake another batch next week. I am so glad I found your website. I will visit often and refer for more recipes and homemaking ideas, and some daily bread also. My family also lives in Kentucky. I know how very busy you must be but if you could find time to help me figure what went wrong with my bread I would be grateful.

I am going to attempt the Amish Friendship bread starter next. I cannot find anyone here who makes it, so I will try your starter for that also. God Bless you and all your efforts and thanks so much for sharing online with a working Mom and Wife who needs all the help she can get.

Sincerely, Cheryl

A: Cheryl, I have thought about your problem, and cannot guarantee my answer will help! But, I would suggest that you bake it for a bit longer or perhaps increase the rising time. Also, be sure that when you add the flour that it is light and fluffy – not packed into the measuring cup. Either sift the flour before measuring or stir the flour and spoon it into the measuring cup. Let me know how your next batch turns out!

I wish I could come over and watch your method – that might help me answer better! I hope you enjoy the Amish Friendship Bread Starter. It is so versatile!

I appreciate your really sweet comments! It means a lot to me!!
